Video interview between Franck Ancel and Benoît Labourdette on the stakes of images and digital, as part of the prefiguration of the Digital Washhouse.

8×8 Season 0 : a series of interviews about images and digital

8X8 is a series of 8 interviews of 8 minutes carried out in the future Digital Washhouse, which is about to see the light of day in the old shower baths of Gentilly.

Designed by Franck Ancel, directed by Guillaume Ledun and produced by Xavier Ganachaud, it brings together 8 personalities (videographers, critics, artists...) with different and complementary approaches to moving images and digital culture. Through their answers to the same 8 questions, the future fields of action of the Lavoir Numérique, a place of education in moving images through practice and of encounter of all audiences with works and artists, take shape in full and in the hollow.

A new episode will be uploaded each month starting March 2018. First episode with Benoît Labourdette.

The Digital Washhouse

The Digital Washhouse, a unique cultural establishment, directed by Xavier Ganachaud, will see the light of day at the end of 2019 in the former Lavoir-Bains-Douches in the town of Gentilly, transformed by ARTEO architectures.

It will be an educational place for young people, families and the general public about the moving image and new digital scripts.

The spaces, spread over four levels, will be composed of practice studios (shooting in real shot, animated film, sound, multimedia, Fablab...), a reception area for artists in residence, a centre dedicated to video games, an exhibition area, a café, and a cinema and live showroom oriented towards digital arts (working with images in real time, etc.).

The challenge will be to propose four complementary axes:

  • Discovery and learning through collective practice
  • Support for artistic creation
  • Training via digital tools
  • Distribution (films, shows), with proposals adapted to different audiences, both accessible and of quality.

The Digital Washhouse is a facility of the Établissement public territorial Grand-Orly Seine Bièvre and the City of Gentilly, supported by the Île-de-France Region.
