In the “Mashup Film Festival” at the Forum des Images (Paris, France), 15 and 16 June 2013, I was invited to propose a workshop for making animated films with handheld cameras, in one shot, cut out of paper. The festival, now in its third edition in 2013, deals with the remix, in the broadest sense. Great and participative event !

Making an animated film with your cell phone...

workshop

Sunday, 2013, June 16 from 14:00 to 20:00
Make an animated movie... with your mobile phone

With Benoît Labourdette.

Make the cut, imagine a story, pick up your phone, invent situations, techniques, special effects, such as early cinema, filmmaker invent you!

Make an animated movie ... with his cell phone! As surprising as it may seem, these small objects that we have in our pockets, if used in the right way, can enable us to create movies so much more professional than we imagine. Come to find out, and to realize, in an afternoon, a cartoon with your phone. We conclude with a projection of your films. And then walk away with your movie!

PS: If your phone does not film, bring a camera. And if you have nothing to shoot, we will have everything you need.

Some films

Some of the films made in the workshop. The films are silent. The participants, enthusiasts have spent a lot of time cutting, experimenting, back on the job!

Traditionally, the making of a cartoon is a very long operation, which requires an investment of participants over a long period. With “Pocket Films” methods, it is possible to do and make cartoons, modest in terms of technology but but ambitious in deep, on much shorter time scales. Here are some examples of concepts and implementations.
