During “l’été culturel 2022” (French Ministry of Culture), Cultures du cœur offered nine social structures around France the opportunity to take part in cut-paper animation workshops, designed and run by Benoît Labourdette, on the theme of “Changer d’horizon”.
The 77 films that were made, along with stories and podcasts from the workshops, are all available on Benoît Labourdette’s dedicated web platform: www.ateliersnumeriques-culturesducœur.org/2022/
This cultural action was followed by a one-day professional training course for professionals who had hosted the event, to reinvest this experience in methodological terms.
+ 20 years of expertise in social investment through access to cultural, sports and leisure activities
Since 1998, Cultures du Cœur has echoed the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), which establishes culture as a fundamental right to which everyone should have access, as well as the Freiburg Declaration on Cultural Rights.
It is also based on article 140 of the 1998 law to combat exclusion, which stipulates equal access for all to culture, sports, vacations and leisure activities.
The work of the national network, with its 34 regional structures, is underpinned by the conviction, shared with its partners, that experimenting with cultural practices not only enables the exercise of citizenship, but also contributes to repairing or rebuilding social ties, calming and re-mobilizing people.
Founded on the fundamental principles of equal access to culture, freedom of choice, cultural experiences and appropriation through sharing, the Cultures du Cœur association is committed to a fairer, more open society that cares about the collective.
In 2022, over 300,000 invitations will be made available to social structures throughout France, enabling them to reach out to people in situations of exclusion. And more than 5,000 cultural structures support us every year to create this ecosystem of solidarity.

The opportunity offered by the French Ministry of Culture’s Eté culturel 2022 program has enabled us to offer 8 social structures throughout France the chance to welcome Benoît Labourdette; a professional in animated film; to set up workshops for making animated films accessible to all, over short, fun times, at the crossroads of the visual arts, cinema and voice work.
These films share a common theme:“Changing horizons”
These workshops are open to all types of people supported by our social structures: adults, children, teenagers, families, from all socio-cultural backgrounds, as well as people with little or no knowledge of the French language. The aim of these workshops is to invest in poetry via the digital medium, to open up in ourselves and in others the spaces of imagination that seem superfluous, but are vital to us.
These creative and digital mediations are carried out with the people we work with, as well as with social actors, for collective and horizontal creations. It’s a welcoming, joyful, open and motivating process, but at the same time highly demanding in terms of artistic method and the quality of the relationship. It’s a real emulation of the audiovisual factory that people are invited to participate in.
The films produced over the course of these 8 full-day actions during the summer of 2022 will be distributed on a specially developed digital platform, which will not only enable the films to be viewed and shared immediately after production, but also to be downloaded in projection quality, so that they can be used as pre-programs for events or other purposes.
Transmission of skills to social players
Each workshop is worked on in advance with professionals from the social structures, in order to prepare a corpus of images “to be cut out”. The social workers also take part in the workshop, to experience the inner workings of the workshop. At the end of the summer, they are invited to take part in a videoconference training session, so that they can draw on their own experiences to develop similar actions for which they could become facilitators.
Valuation of productions

The films produced during the summer are promoted both as they are made, on the platform and on the national partners’ social networks, and afterwards, through a qualitative editorialization on the dedicated platform, which allows them to be downloaded and indicates their broadcast locations and dates, of which each participant is kept informed automatically.
The fact that participants know that their films will be shown gives them a sense of purpose which, since it is taken in solidarity by the management, invites positive emulation.
Creativity is essential in all fields of life and activities, as a relationship to oneself, a discovery of one’s abilities, and then daring to share and express oneself. Thus creativity workshops can be useful in all types of contexts: professional, academic, artistic...
