Bibliothèque Carré d’Art (Nîmes): Meeting a poet / a filmmaker. Cédric Le Penven and Benoît Labourdette

Reading-projection and participative cinematographic creation.

A poet and a filmmaker for a crossing around the figure of the window, or rather the discovery of oneself through its projection on the world. Reading, projection, collective creation

Lecture-screening

We embedded the readings and the film projections, which resonated in deep echo. Dominique Rousselet and Guillaume Boppe, from the Carré d’Art Library in Nîmes, had the talent to bring us together, to make us correspond. We mutually discovered the underlying links between our works.

Collective Creation

Then, after this screening-reading, we suggested that the audience each write down an important memory on a piece of paper, which we would then read together, to record the sound. Then I was going to shoot some echo images (I had no idea which ones, it would depend on the texts), then put the two together.

The reading, which is the soundtrack of the film, was a precious moment of sharing the memories offered by the audience present.

Broadcast of the film

After the recording, I displayed a QR Code on the screen, which viewers were invited to photograph, that led to a web page where I would drop the film the next day. This way, everyone could access it easily.

Shooting the film

I originally thought I would shoot more in the morning in Nîmes. And then, as I walked through, at night, this magnificent empty library/museum building (architect: Norman Foster, 1993), I felt that the images had to be shot there, because it was the open interior windows right here that had let these memories show.
