From 27 to 29 October 2026, at the Albert Camus shelter and at Le Cherpa in Tours, people housed by the association Entraide et Solidarités are making short tool films with us about their rights: the residents’ council, the charter of rights and freedoms of people in care, and the remedies available when a right is not respected. Groups form by language, in French, English, Arabic and Pashto, supported by volunteers and staff of the association. They write a short text, cut characters and sets out of paper, shoot under a rostrum camera in a single take and record their voices. In a filming booth, those who wish to can tell their own experience. Nobody has to appear on screen. We show all the films at the end of each day and put them online the same evening. On 16 October 2026, within the “Educating the eye: images, media, information” course run by Images en bibliothèques, we lead a half-day module on artificial intelligence in film-education workshops, for a dozen librarians from all over France. The stance of this edition: start by making — each trainee produces a short film with AI on their smartphone, from synopsis to editing — and discuss afterwards, the lived experience becoming the material of critical reflection. The “Immersion VR” digital cultural classroom, carried out with the Erasme laboratory of the Métropole de Lyon, Festivals Connexion and Réseau Canopé, returns for the 2026-2027 school year: several classes across the metropolis discover storytelling in virtual reality and make 360° films together, guided remotely and in person by Benoît Labourdette. In 2026, the CNC set up, on an experimental basis, a support fund for innovative schemes in film and image education. It is one of the measures of the plan to rebuild film and image education, announced in November 2025 by the French ministries of Culture and Education. With 700,000 euros a year, the fund supports actions and tools designed by film education professionals that take young people’s own practices as their starting point, from early childhood up to the age of 25, in order to support their discovery of works and their wish to create. Benoît Labourdette sits on the committee that reviews the projects, together with professionals from film education and cultural action and representatives of the Ministry of Education. The committee met in plenary session on 13 October 2026, and the CNC will publish the list of selected projects once the grants have been awarded. For the sixth year, we provide the artistic direction of the itinerant screening of the War on Screen festival: some thirty students from the cinema option of the Pierre Bayen high school make their own films on a social theme, then design, rehearse and lead a night walk of projections through the streets of Châlons-en-Champagne, at the heart of the festival. The launch meeting of the 2026 edition has just taken place with the teaching team and La Comète; the workshops resume in the autumn, leading to the public night walk during the festival [dates to be confirmed]. On 8 October 2026, in Aiguillon (Lot-et-Garonne), cinema mediators from across Nouvelle-Aquitaine were ending their regional meeting days, devoted this year to transition and organised by Cinéma Indépendant en Nouvelle-Aquitaine (CINA) with Écran 47. At the invitation of Philippe Caillé and the association Les Ouvriers du cinéma, Benoît Labourdette led the afternoon, entitled “Passing on cinema when everyone films”. After an introduction on mediation, cultural rights and today’s image practices, the participants went through a mediation themselves: a collective one-take film, shot by passing the camera from hand to hand, put online within the hour and available to everyone through a QR code. On 28 September 2026 we lead a new training day for the Ex Voto à la Lune company, directed by stage director Émilie-Anna Maillet, artist in residence at MC2: Grenoble, national theatre. Since “Kant”, based on Jon Fosse, the company has been combining theatre, new magic, holograms, virtual reality and augmented reality on stage — a line of research begun well before these tools became common in the performing arts. Around its new creation, “Le Voyage de Kristoffer”, supported by France 2030, the company is deploying an immersive journey for school groups: a virtual-reality installation, an augmented-reality labyrinth, and a workshop where children make one-take animated films, which we designed with the company. After a first working day in March, devoted to mediation methodology and to the technical setup, this time we train the team on the finalised equipment, so that they can run the workshop on their own before the first classes. On 25 September 2026 in Tours, within the Passeurs d’images framework, Ciclic Centre-Val de Loire has entrusted us with a training day for professionals who work with young people: “Understanding the images that do violence”. The day distinguishes violent images from images that do violence, starts from the concrete situations experienced by the participants, and continues with the collective design of educational tools — without a normative stance, drawing on the group’s collective intelligence and creativity. Launched in February 2025 with the Maison des Pratiques Artistiques Amateurs, the Azimut platform allows amateur artists to make themselves visible, to meet one another and to share resources. We led its strategy, its design and its technical development, following a contributive and sovereign method (free software, open code, built-in documentation); its graphic identity, entrusted to an amateur artist herself, continues to evolve. Work resumes in September with the recruitment at the MPAA of someone whose full-time role will be to develop use of the platform. At the MUFIM, Tournai’s Museum of Folklore and Imagination, twelve pairs, each made up of a student from the Expography Museography master’s programme at Université d’Artois and a student from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Tournai, each meet a Belgian artist whose work has entered the museum’s collections. Each pair turns this meeting into a film, a podcast or a recording, which the museum will present next to the works through QR codes. On 3 November, Benoît Labourdette leads the framing day: he helps the pairs devise a shooting protocol suited to each work, and prepare the edit while shooting, since they will edit their own films two days later. He will then come back by videoconference on hosting the films and making the QR codes, so that the museum keeps control of these files over time. The master’s students began their year with us at the MUba in Tourcoing: Two days to give ourselves permission to create. On 4 and 5 November 2026, the Ligue de l’enseignement and the national association of travelling cinemas (ANCI) bring together at Le Méliès in Grenoble the fourteen cinema operators, mostly travelling circuits, that the Ligue is supporting for two years, with guidance entrusted to ANCI. Benoît Labourdette opens the two days with a two-hour participatory lecture. He suggests linking mediation, film education and fundraising, starting from what each person already does in their cinema or on their tours: the history of cultural policies and cultural rights, today’s image practices, travelling screenings in public space. Conversations in pairs and a writing session alternate with these contributions, and Benoît Labourdette explains each method after the group has experienced it, so that everyone can use it with their own audiences. This year, the Collective of film festivals of Nouvelle-Aquitaine is devoting its meetings to artificial intelligence: in Pau in April, in Rochefort in June, in Sarlat on 5 November, before a synthesis in Poitiers in December. In Sarlat, during the Sarlat Film Festival, where some six hundred high-school film students come from all over France, Benoît Labourdette leads a morning on artificial intelligence and film education, at the invitation of Pierre-Henri Arnstam, the festival’s president. For about twenty festival directors from the region, he reviews how teenagers are using these tools in November 2026, and presents creative workshops with AI, including those he led at the Centre Pompidou and the Forum des images, distinguishing those a festival can reproduce in a single session. Each participant then writes a proposal for their own festival, and these proposals will be pooled before the synthesis in Poitiers. “Droit à la parole!” (“The right to speak!”), a documentary film by Benoît Labourdette (65 minutes), produced by Sources Vives, the endowment fund of the École Nouvelle La Source (Meudon), will have its first public screening on 10 November 2026, at 5 pm and 7:30 pm, at the Centre d’Art et de Culture in Meudon. The film immerses itself in the daily life of a school that has practised democratic pedagogy since 1946, from nursery to high school, and was made with a method consistent with its subject: the pupils, cameras in hand, are its co-directors. On 12 November 2026, Mixt, born from the merger of Le Grand T and Musique et Danse en Loire-Atlantique, brings together in Nantes, for the first time, the teachers and staff of the département’s music and dance schools, around a question chosen with the school directors: how can we better welcome and support teenagers? After a morning of talks, including one by the psychosociologist Joëlle Bordet, Benoît Labourdette leads an afternoon ideas forum for some hundred and fifty people. Everyone first talks in pairs, then writes, alone in a booklet or in a small group at a themed table. He photographs the sheets on the spot and puts them online as they come, so that the final discussion starts from what everyone has just written, and everyone leaves with all the contributions on their phone. We used a similar method for the back-to-work morning of Laval’s culture department in September. On 18 November 2026 in Moulins, the Collège au cinéma coordination in the Allier is devoting its annual training day to artificial intelligence and creation. The day is open to all secondary school teachers in the département, whether or not they take part in the scheme, and requires no prior knowledge. Benoît Labourdette starts by giving the group a shared vocabulary: how these tools really work, what images we have of them, and what we know today about their environmental cost. Each participant then makes a film with artificial intelligence on their phone, following the workshop protocol developed with the Centre Pompidou and then the Forum des images, before working out with the others how to transpose it to their own class. On 24 November 2026, the inter-regional directorate of France’s youth justice service (PJJ) Grand-Centre brings together at the Frac Franche-Comté in Besançon, with the DRAC Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and the prison administration, up to fifty justice and culture professionals who run projects together with people under judicial supervision. Benoît Labourdette opens the day with a lecture on the place of artistic experience in a person’s life path, drawing on workshop situations with young people and adults. In the afternoon, he leads a workshop on images and digital tools. In groups mixing justice and culture, participants create a photograph together at the Frac, signed with their first names, then watch it projected: the authors stay silent, and the others say what they see in it. The group then turns to the questions specific to images in a judicial context, image rights included. Since 2020, the media literacy escape game Traqueurs d’infox has been built with France’s youth justice service (PJJ) and the association Les Déclencheurs (Isabelle Saussol), and tested with young people at every stage. Its second version brings two paths together in a single tool, one on images and virality, the other on artificial intelligence. PJJ youth workers are trying it out with their groups this autumn, and we will settle its final form on the basis of their feedback, expected in early November. The first trials already show that when it comes to talking about psychosocial skills, youth workers want clear material and a real face-to-face conversation with the young people, rather than one more activity on screen. Every year, the Meetings of AJC, a network of jazz and improvised music venues and festivals, end in Pantin with a professional morning open to all. On 2 December 2026, at La Dynamo de Banlieues Bleues, the morning is entitled “What happens in the margin: making culture with one’s territory”, and 150 to 200 people are expected. Benoît Labourdette designs and coordinates it with Réjane Sourisseau, researcher and associate lecturer at Université de Lille. He talks about the margin as a place where forms are invented, and she presents experiences of venues and festivals rooted in their territory. Each person then shares with their neighbour an idea to try in their own venue, writes it down and submits it through a QR code, and the discussion builds on the contributions shown on screen. On 3 and 4 December 2026, the National Pedagogical Days of the CESU (France’s emergency-care teaching centres) will gather 250 trainers at the Pathé cinema in Angers, at the invitation of ANCESU and CESU 49. We have been supporting the pedagogical design of the event since autumn 2025, and Benoît Labourdette will give the opening lecture, “Cinema, mirror and engine of our learning”: what narrative, sound, acting and image do to learning, applied to the teaching of life-saving procedures. Grandir Ensemble is a family programme on children’s rights, run in Issy-les-Moulineaux by young members of the town’s youth council: from November 2026 to October 2027, each month has its theme and its workshops, open to all families. In December, the month devoted to children’s needs, Benoît Labourdette leads a workshop-meeting on screens, for parents and children together. He presents, age by age, the current state of knowledge about screens and the points on which scientists disagree, drawing in particular on the guidelines of Serge Tisseron, with whom he has worked for more than fifteen years, and without making anyone feel guilty. On 8 December 2026, at Le 4Bis in Rennes, UFFEJ Bretagne, which coordinates Passeurs d’images in the region, brings together people working in film education for a day devoted to workshop films and cultural rights. In the morning, the anthropologist Marie Ducellier gives, by videoconference, an overview of workshop films according to the organisations behind them, Benoît Labourdette offers some landmarks on everyone’s place in a workshop, read through cultural rights, and four organisations present a project carried out during the year. In the afternoon, four groups each work through a case study of one of these projects, film in hand, using the cultural rights method. The discussions are recorded and written up during the day, and we will draw a synthesis from them in January. Few parties have yet published anything on culture with 2027 in view, while professional organisations, local authorities and researchers have written a great deal. With Juliette Bompoint, former director of Mains d’Œuvres and then of Périfééries 2028, we have gathered nearly a hundred and fifty of these texts on culture2027.fr. They come from thirty-four authors (eleven parties, six candidates, seventeen organisations), which we have sorted according to ten core values, noting points of agreement, disagreements and topics almost absent from the debate. The platform is not linked to any party, and the Observatoire des politiques culturelles and UFISC support and relay it. Anyone can publish a text there under their own name, and join the writing workshop held by videoconference every Monday at 5 pm until 21 December 2026.
