Projection

Projection © Benoît Labourdette.

The word “projection” literally means the action of “throwing forward”. By extension, since the XIVth Century, it means the action of throwing out of oneself an acting force. Then the meaning extends to geometry and cartography (projection of objects on a plane), to optics (magic lantern, slides, cinema) and finally to psychology and psychoanalysis (projection on a person).

The film projection is the moment of encounter between an image, its support and the viewer’s gaze. This event is always fascinating, it plays on a lot of affects, that’s why we are so captured by the images. As a filmmaker, the way of organizing and questioning “projection” is one of the essential spaces of my work, rich in immense artistic potentialities.
